COMPANY BIOG. & FILMOGRAPHY

Praxis means: "the unity of thought and action". This sounds very high brow, but we try to work to it in all that we do: thinking before we act in order to deliver the best piece of work, to specification, to budget and to deadline.

LONG ESTABLISHED - FILM, TV PRODUCTION COMPANY

Praxis are a long established British film production company, specialising in documentary, current affairs, news, educational and infotainment programmes for UK and international broadcasters.

A COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY - OF AND FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

Using the same top of the range communication skills gained in top flight television production, we have diversified into Corporate Production, Interactive Media, The Internet and DVD Authoring, Consultancy and New Media production.

UPI

Praxis have worked all over the world, including a partnership with UPI, the multi Pulitzer Prize winning wire service, in the creation and running of UPI Television, based in Washington DC. Our people provided the creative and managerial drive for that development, which involved over 1,000 reporters, being harnessed into developing and producing projects for the US and international TV markets using UPI’s existing mammoth editorial reach and resources.

AREAS OF WORK TODAY

A regional "indie", with bases in London, Lincolnshire and Sussex. Praxis now operate in the following areas:

  • Broadcast Television.
  • Media Training
  • Corporate Productions for commerce and industry, whether producing videos, films, audio, web or print products.
  • Information Architecture, Research and Writing for New Media.
  • Consultancy on Communications generally but on PR specifically and especially.
  • Our own DVD and Video Catalogue for Educational and Retail Markets.

BROADCAST

We have a raft of broadcast credits too numerous to list for ready reading, but our personal favourites:

Billy Butlin
"Secret Lives" biographical film on the "Holiday Camp King" for C4.
Bloody Sunday
Much lauded and award winning "Secret History" documentary on the events of January 31st 1972 in Derry, Northern Ireland, when 13 Civil Rights marchers were shot dead and another 14 shot and wounded by British soldiers. Led to producer giving evidence at the recent Saville Inquiry. See Bloody Sunday for transcript of John Goddard’s evidence. Film aired in over 60 countries worldwide and won various awards.
A Class Act
Current Affairs series for teachers made for Granada.
Dispatches
Numerous films for this Current Affairs series in the UK.
Fish n Ships
Terrible title, but two films we are very fond of, shot on 16mm, tracking the demise of Britain’s once mighty trawling industry and its communities.
Knee High
A film where the camera is the eyes of a 3 year old going to nursery, and another who has not got a place. C4.
Marie Stopes
"Secret Lives" biography film of the famous sex and family planning pioneer. C4.
Rich Pickings
"Cutting Edge" documentary for C4, which first exposed the iniquities of the now notorious gang master system of labour in Eastern England.
Who’s Into ...?
Ratings topping 12 x 30 minute prime time series for ITV about people with magnificent obsessions.
Many more one-offs and series in between these, and also dating back to our founding in 1985.
