FACTUAL ENTERTAINMENT

Looked down upon by many, Praxis has always enjoyed making films for the Factual Entertainment genre. Films which often show people at their most open, their most natural and funniest in the nicest possible way!

We did two ratings topping series called “Who’s Into …?” for ITV, prime time on Friday nights at 6.30pm. Twelve x 30 minute programmes were made up of over 50 x 4 minute films of this ilk. The series still runs and has many fans in the Far East apparently. Here are two of those films, about people enjoying what can only be described as “magnificent obsessions.”

THE YORKSHIRE TRAIN MAN

Watch low quality 150kbps / Watch high quality 512kbps

Perhaps it is a little obsessive to run your outdoor 200 yard small gauge train set day and night each weekend to the timetable of your local Devon line when you were a boy in the 1950’s. But, hey, we all chose our own life and pastimes and no harm done. Though building the track yourself, with stones and soil brought to your Yorkshire garden after walking the original line might be thought a tad excessive? The story of a man who does just this.

THE DOLPHIN MAN

Watch low quality 150kbps / Watch high quality 512kbps

In similar light hearted, but admiring vein, this film tells the story of Horace, a Chemistry Ph.D. who saw his young son picked up and carried across a bay by a dolphin. His life transformed, he became an eminent expert and devotee, consumed by a desire to study and help these wonderful creatures and does so all over the world.

“True Yorkshire characters, lovingly portrayed”.
