History is one of the sexy areas of film making at present. Biography films are consistently one of the most popular areas of films. Praxis has always enjoyed making history films and series. Indeed, our very first films for broadcast were “sprawling oral history films”, according to one review. Clips from two of our favourites are shown here:

A woman who affected tens of millions through her pioneering work for women’s rights, relating to contraception and sex. Yet Marie Stope’s own personal life had many hardships, and was often strange in the extreme. This 50 minute film explored the contradiction between the personal and the public image. A co-production with Soul Purpose Ltd..
“A wonderful evocation of times past, yet a woman of substance and relevance even today”.
(The Observer.)

Two 40 minute films in a short series telling the stories of the men, their families and their community, as the last major fishing boat left Grimsby in the mid 1980’s.
“An excellent series. A great sprawling telling of the story of the rise and fall of Britain’s fishing communities
– yet perhaps that is what the history of ordinary people really is, a sprawling tale”.
(The Times.)
